Following England men's historic run at Euro 2020, the Lionesses will be hoping to make an impact this summer when they host the Women's Euros.

It was announced earlier this week that Arsenal defender Leah Williamson will captain her country at the tournament in July.

While this is one major decision out of the way, England manager Sarina Wiegman still has the unenviable job of selecting her squad from the pool of incredible talent.

One player who will be hoping for a spot on the roster is Manchester City's Georgia Stanway.

At this moment in time, each position is well stacked for the Lionesses. Thanks to Wiegman's belief in younger players, England boast incredible depth all over the pitch.

Almost no player is guaranteed a place in the Euro 2022 squad. The healthy competition for a spot in the international camp is tougher than it's ever been and it's almost impossible to predict who Wiegman will select this summer.

Stanway is very much in the running, having become an England regular over the last few years thanks to her influential performances at club level.

The Man City star discussed her journey to the very top as part of McDonald’s Fun Football sessions, an initiative created to provide free football for young children.

"I used to kick a ball around on the sideline when I was four watching my brother," she said, reflecting on her grassroots experience. "He played for a boys’ team called Furness Rovers. One day they just asked if I wanted to play. I jumped straight in and never looked back."

In 2015, Stanway joined Man City and quickly rose into the spotlight. Since making her senior debut, she has won the Women's Super League title, three FA Cups, and three league cups with the Citizens.

From a young age, Stanway has been one to watch and she is now regarded as one of England's best forwards. She recently became Man City Women's all-time leading goalscorer after surpassing Nikita Parris' previous record of 63 goals.

Her dominance at domestic level has made her a regular in the Lionesses set up.

The 23-year-old was called up for her first World Cup in 2019 and was also selected as part of Team GB for the 2020 Olympics.

Stanway has since helped England win the inaugural Arnold Clark Cup, which has put them in good stead as they look to extend their form at the Euros.

The versatile winger revealed which teams she sees as the biggest threat for England and their mission to lift the trophy on home soil.

"On the day, anybody’s a challenge. I think the likes of the Netherlands, Spain, Germany and Sweden will be up there as they’re unbelievable competitors. They have a lot of experience of playing in major tournaments and understand what it takes to win. I expect them to be tough.

"I’m more excited to see us out there in front of a home crowd though. We’re going to get out there and showcase to the world, Europe and the country what we can do. We want to inspire the next generation."
