Harry Maguire's struggles this season have been well publicised.

The defender had a brilliant Euro 2020 campaign and there was optimism that he would captain Man United to the Premier League title in 2021/22.

However, that has not materialised.

Maguire has made a plethora of mistakes in what has been a dismal campaign for United.

Despite not performing to the best of his ability, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick have both continued to show faith in the English defender.

He was in the starting lineup once again for their Premier League clash against Everton on Saturday.

However, he had another game to forget at Goodison Park.

Everton took the lead in the 27th minute after Anthony Gordon's strike cannoned into Maguire and into the net.

In truth, there was nothing that Maguire could have done and it was very unlucky.

Maguire went viral for his actions a minute later. A ball struck Maguire's teammate, Nemanja Matic, in the arm.

Everyone in the stadium wearing blue appealed for a handball. And Maguire appeared to do so too.

Maguire shouted at the referee and raised his hand as the ball struck Matic on the arm. View the moment below...

Perhaps influenced by Maguire, Jonathan Moss blew his whistle and signalled for a foul.

Everton went on to win 1-0, putting a massive dent in United's hopes of finishing in a Champions League spot.

Maguire appealing for a handball comes just a day after Alphonso Davies questioned him being Man United captain.

The Bayern star said on Twitch: “Can you guys imagine. You are [Cristiano] Ronaldo… One of the greatest players ever. And what’s his name is your captain? Harry Maguire is your captain?

“And you refer to him as ‘yes cap’. I don’t know what he says to him… Bro. I’m not dissing Harry Maguire but Ronaldo… Ronaldo should get the armband man.”
