Manchester United's hopes of finishing in the Premier League top four took yet another hammer blow on Saturday afternoon.

Ralf Rangnick's side travelled to out-of-form Everton knowing only a win would suffice, but they were condemned to a shock 1-0 defeat.

Despite the fact they had Cristiano Ronaldo back in the starting XI, the Red Devils were utterly woeful at Goodison Park.

Everton were more than deserving of the win and the three points they picked up mean the Toffees will remain above the relegation zone for at least another week.

Frank Lampard's side turned in one of their best displays of the 2021/22 season on Saturday and Richarlison was a standout performer for the second consecutive match.

The Brazil international worked tirelessly on both the left-hand side of attack and in a more central position after Dominic Calvert-Lewin was subbed off in the second half.

As well as running United's defence ragged, Richarlison found time to mock the opposition with some showboating right in front of the home fans.

Video: Richarlison plays keep-ups with his head

When someone battling relegation is casually playing head tennis in the 56th-minute of play, you know things are very, very bad.

The fact Jadon Sancho didn't sprint to close Richarlison down and stop the savage showboating at all costs was rather telling...

United's latest defeat means their chances of qualifying for next season's Champions League are now slim to nil. At this rate, they may even struggle to make it into the Europa League.

Rangnick's team will be a minimum of three points outside the top five places in the Premier League at the end of the weekend with just seven games left to play.

Things don't get much easier for United in the coming weeks either. After hosting Norwich City at Old Trafford next weekend, they travel to play northern rivals Liverpool at Anfield in a midweek clash.
