Roy Keane takes cheeky dig at Gary Neville

But there was one funny moment where Keane couldn’t resist rinsing Neville, who was in awe of the way City and Liverpool’s defenders continued to push high up the pitch during the closing stages of the game.

"They are exceptional teams, so good,” the former Manchester United captain said. “What I admire most about them is from a defensive point of view. You could never have got [Jamie Carragher] or me, or even [Micah Richards] to push high up with 10 minutes to go like those two teams.

"The nerve to do that, under the highest pressure against the best opponents with the best passers and best runners is unbelievable. It really is.

"You’ve seen teams push up in the past, you had the Arsenal team with Tony Adams that pushed up high at times, but never like we have seen these two teams in this game today. They are the two best teams in Europe and in the world doing it in the most difficult moments and that takes some doing.”

Richards hit back, perhaps feeling a little offended by Neville’s comment, saying: “I was lightning. Don’t put me in the same category as you and Carra. Don’t you dare!”

Keane then jumped in and said to Neville: “You did drop deep towards the end of your career, Gary. You were behind the goal at one stage!”

Neville then had another cheeky dig at Richards after the former Man City defender said he would love to have played under Guardiola.

“You are not good enough to play for him.” Neville said. “I wasn’t good enough to play for him, you weren’t good enough to play for him. You’ve got to control the ball!”
