Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has made signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis one of his 'top priorities', according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Carter-Vickers joined the Hoops on a season-long loan from Spurs on deadline day of last summer's transfer window and he has gone on to become a key member of Postecoglou's side.

What's the latest news involving Carter-Vickers?

According to the Daily Record, Celtic are edging closer to agreeing a permanent deal worth up to £10million for Carter-Vickers.

The report suggests the eight-cap United States international is keen to remain in Glasgow thanks to enjoying the best spell of his career at Parkhead.

It has been revealed by The Scotsman that chief executive Michael Nicholson has been put in charge of brokering the switch despite owner Dermot Desmond previously describing Postecoglou as the 'chairman of the board in terms of football recruitment'.

Should Carter-Vickers join Celtic and his fee reach the £10million mark, he would usurp former striker Odsonne Edouard as the club's record signing.

Postecoglou has publicly revealed his intentions to secure the defender’s services on a permanent basis, with him admitting he hopes qualifying for the Champions League will tempt the 24-year-old to remain at the club.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Carter-Vickers?

O'Rourke believes Celtic are desperate to beat other potential suitors to Carter-Vickers' signature and, as a result, are keen to complete the switch quickly.

The journalist feels Postecoglou has made acquiring the centre-half, who has already got his hands on the Scottish League Cup during his time north of the border, one of his key tasks heading into the summer.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "I'm sure Celtic will be hoping to tie this deal up as soon as possible.

"They'll want it done before Premier League clubs could maybe come in and offer more money for Carter-Vickers.

"I think it will be one of Postecoglou's top priorities to get this deal done."

Are Premier League clubs showing an interest?

According to the Daily Record, Burnley have joined Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City in attempting to persuade Carter-Vickers to return to the Premier League.

West Ham United have reportedly developed an interest as well, with the central defender's Celtic performances clearly not going unnoticed.

American media outlet SBI Soccer have claimed Watford and Championship outfit Bournemouth have already been in contact with Tottenham ahead of potentially tabling a bid in the summer.
