You can forgive Manchester City and Liverpool for not really knowing how to feel after they played out a 2-2 draw at the Etihad on Sunday. The bottom line is that City remain one point clear of Liverpool with seven matches remaining. They are now more likely to win the Premier League following the match than they were before kick-off.However, Pep Guardiola couldn't help but feel they let Liverpool off the hook - especially after dominating the first half.“I felt we let them have a life from here," he admitted at full-time.As for Liverpool, they missed their only chance to keep the title in their own hands. However, a loss would have left them four points adrift of the leaders and effectively ended their hopes of winning the league. With seven games left to play, there's plenty of time for some more twists and turns yet.For the neutral, it was an enthralling encounter that swung one way and then the next.Even in the final minutes of the match, both sides were looking to win the clash. In fact, City should have won it.In the 94th-minute, a sumptuous Kevin De Bruyne pass put Riyad Mahrez through on goal. The Algerian cut inside on his left foot and looked set to win the match for City. However, his dinked effort flew harmlessly over the bar.

It was a terrible finish from what can only be described as a sitter.

However, perhaps Mahrez should be cut a bit of slack.

Because footage has since emerged that his chip was actually an incredible piece of defending by Joel Matip. Angles show the Liverpool defender deflected the goal-bound effort over Alisson's crossbar. Nobody inside the stadium seemed to notice at the time and there weren't even appeals for a corner from any City players.

But just how big could that touch from Matip prove to be?

If Liverpool end up winning the league, it will all be thanks to that piece of defending from the Cameroonian.
