Ex-Liverpool star Dirk Kuyt is seeking a new challenge in retirement and is on the hunt for a celebrity opponent to take on in the boxing ring.

Kuyt, 41, retired from football in 2017 after helping Feyenoord to the Eridivisie title on the final day of the season, in what was his last professional game.

The Dutchman is most famous for his time spent on Merseyside, where he became a favourite amongst the Kop thanks to his eye for goal and undying work ethic.

Four years on from when he hung up his boots, Kuyt was quoted recently saying that he "missed the tension" of his playing days.

He told the Humberto Talk Show, per Marca: "As a former football player, I know what it’s like to be in a stadium.

"It’s been about four years since I stopped playing football. And of course, I miss that tension and that struggle to win a match.

The ultimate Jurgen Klopp quiz: How much do you know about the Liverpool manager?

"I have practiced many other sports, such as tennis, paddle tennis and fitness. But getting into a ring is new to me.

"So I would love to get into that battle against another celebrity. From now on I will train hard."

Of course, Kuyt isn't the only footballer that has been looking to pick up the gloves, as Patrice Evra was also scheduled to make his boxing debut against YouTube sensation Adam Saleh at the O2 Arena in London later this month.

Unfortunately, with the main event for the fight (Martyn Ford vs Sajad Ghabiri) being called off, the entire event has had to be postponed, leaving Evra in limbo.

Who knows maybe this could be an option for both wannabe fighters? Although, it might take a serious amount of weight manipulation for the two to chime in at an even mark.

An ex-Liverpool and ex-Manchester United star going at it in the ring - now that would get some audience.

Kuyt has agreed to take part in an event in October this year led by kickboxer Rico Verhoeven, but as mentioned previously, is yet to find a willing celebrity opponent.

Does anyone have Patrice Evra's number by any chance?
