Manchester United are ‘keeping tabs on the situation’ of Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Red Devils have been linked with a move for the 28-year-old in recent weeks as they plot their summer transfer business ahead of the arrival of a new permanent manager.

What is the latest news involving Kane?

Kane was at the centre of a transfer saga last year as United’s local rivals Manchester City attempted to prise him away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

According to The Telegraph, City saw a £125 million bid rejected by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy last summer, with Pep Guardiola confirming they had up to four bids turned down.

The Daily Mail stated that the capital club were demanding £150m for their prized asset, a figure the reigning Premier League champions were unwilling to match.

Kane ended up staying put and after a slow start to the campaign, where he registered just one goal and one assist in his opening 13 top-flight appearances, the England international has now found his form again.

In his 43 appearances across all competitions throughout 2021/22, the prolific marksman has racked up 31 goal contributions, sparking fresh speculation over his future.

A recent report from The Athletic claimed United were interested in snapping up Kane ‘regardless of who is charge next season’ as they attempt to close the gap on the top teams.

What has O’Rourke said about Kane?

O’Rourke has now provided an update on the Old Trafford outfit’s pursuit of Kane, revealing they are prepared to ‘offer players’ in part exchange in order to secure his signature.

In an exclusive interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “Manchester United are obviously keeping tabs on the situation.

“They are willing to offer players that maybe don't figure in their long-term plans. Anthony Martial is already out on loan at Sevilla, but that move hasn't worked out for him.”

Do United need Kane?

Edinson Cavani is expected to depart on a free transfer following the conclusion of 2021/22 and Mason Greenwood is unavailable due to an ongoing police investigation, while the futures of Anthony Martial and Cristiano Ronaldo remain unclear.

Therefore, a new striker may be at the top of United’s wish list ahead of next season, and The Telegraph has stated that Erik ten Hag, who is expected to be named as the club’s next permanent boss, will be handed a sizeable budget to bring Kane to the Theatre of Dreams.

The £200,000-per-week ace is a proven goalscorer at the highest level and could be the catalyst United need to return to their former glories.
