Southampton 'open to offers' for £28.8m trio as 'five or six' could exit St Mary's

Southampton are ‘open to offers’ for Moussa Djenepo, Nathan Redmond and Theo Walcott, who could be among ‘five or six’ summer departures from St Mary’s, according to The Sun journalist Tom Barclay.

Saints suffered an embarrassing 6-0 thumping at the hands of Chelsea last weekend and it appears boss Ralph Hasenhuttl could look to part ways with several of his current squad members as he aims to take the south coast club to the next level.

What’s the latest news involving Djenepo, Redmond and Walcott?

According to The Athletic, Southampton are looking to cash-in on Djenepo, Redmond and Walcott as they will enter the final 12 months of their respective contracts at the end of the season.

Djenepo has failed to nail down a regular starting berth at St Mary’s, which is emphasised by the fact the £9.9million-rated winger has featured for Mali as many times since the turn of the year – five – as he has made Premier League starts this season.

Redmond may have made 224 appearances since heading to the south coast in a £10million deal close to six years ago, but a tally of eight goal contributions this term has seen him become a peripheral figure since the turn of the year.

The £2.7million-rated Walcott has not made a Premier League start since Boxing Day, with only one minute of top-flight action coming since, highlighting that the £72,000-per-week wide-man does not feature heavily in Hasenhuttl’s plans.

What has Tom Barclay said about the trio?

Barclay understands Djenepo, Walcott and Redmond – who is valued at £16.2million by Transfermarkt – are available to suitors at the end of the campaign.

However, the journalist believes they will not be the only stars to leave St Mary’s during the summer transfer window, meaning chief executive Martin Semmens and owner Dragan Solak could oversee some high-profile departures.

Barclay told GIVEMESPORT: “I don’t know if they’d sell all of them. It depends on the offers.

“From what I’ve heard, they are open to offers on those three. There could be quite a few who leave Southampton. There could be five or six, so we’ll see.”

Who else could leave Southampton during the summer?

One key player who looks all-but-certain to leave the south coast is Armando Broja as his season-long loan from Chelsea will come to an end and Southampton may struggle to prise him away from Stamford Bridge on a permanent basis.

Saints will also have a host of players coming towards the end of their contracts, with Jack Stephens, Shane Long, Alex McCarthy, Fraser Forster, Willy Caballero and Harry Lewis seeing their respective deals run out on June 30.

Seeing the latter quartet leave St Mary’s would result in Hasenhuttl frantically looking to bring in new goalkeepers as all of his current options will have departed.
