Australia defeated New Zealand 3-1 after a Hayley Raso strike and two goals from Sam Kerr in the first half.

Hannah Wilkinson hit back for the Football Ferns just before half-time, but her side were unable to find the net again in a goalless second half.

The match was less dramatic then the encounter between the two nations last Friday, which ended 2-1 after last gasp goals from Kerr and Emily Van Egmond.

New Zealand had been leading from Anna Green’s thunderbolt in the 30th minute until Van Egmond’s equaliser in the 90+4th minute.

Kennedy then set up Kerr for the winner two minutes later, clinching a sensational victory for the Matildas.

The 27-year-old, who has 105 caps for Australia, currently plies her trade for Manchester City.

The Women’s Super League side will be hoping Kennedy makes a speedy recovery from her nose injury as they look to earn a Champions League qualification spot.
