Real Madrid are through to the semi-finals of the Champions League after an epic battle with Chelsea.

Los Blancos won 3-1 at Stamford Bridge last week, but looked as if they were heading out of the competition at one point on Tuesday evening.

On 75 minutes, Timo Werner put Chelsea deservedly 3-0 up after goals from Mason Mount and Antonio Rudiger either side of half-time.

But Real Madrid are a team that seem to never accept defeat in the Champions League and five minutes later, they levelled the tie on aggregate.

A superb volley by substitute Rodrygo Goes - which was assisted in outrageous fashion by Luka Modric - sent the match at the Santiago Bernabeu to extra-time.

Real Madrid then moved ahead in the tie once again in the 96th-minute when Karim Benzema (who else?) headed home from close range following a costly slip in the penalty area by Rudiger.

Carlo Ancelotti's side kept their nerve for the remainder of extra-time to book their place in the semis.

And no Real Madrid player showed more composure than Thibaut Courtois in the dying embers of the Champions League classic.

In the second half of extra-time, the former Chelsea goalkeeper had the bottle to send Kai Havertz all the way back to Bayer Leverkusen with the riskiest skill move inside the box.

It really was shades of Ederson against Liverpool last Sunday...

Who knew Courtois had that in his locker?! The Belgian isn't just world-class at stopping shots, he's pretty darn useful with his feet as well!

So, Real Madrid are through to yet another Champions League semi-final and they will play either Manchester City or city rivals Atletico, who do battle on Wednesday evening.

Whoever Los Blancos' opponent is, you just know it's going to be a special tie and Benzema will no doubt have a huge say in it.

The Frenchman simply has to be the favourite for the 2022 Ballon d'Or following his heroics against Chelsea...
