WWE could be set for another titanic showdown that will draw the attention of hardcore wrestling fans, as well as draw in new viewers, with a fight between The Rock and Roman Reigns being teased ahead of WrestleMania 39.
On The Rock’s biopic Young Rock, homage was paid to Roman Reigns, who’s the real-life cousin of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
The show is set in 2032 and follows The Rock ahead of his presidential election campaign, and flashes back to the past to look at major moments in his childhood, and how he became the famed wrestler he is today.
In the show, a young Reigns points to the camera shouting his iconic catchphrase: “Acknowledge me!”
A card then appeared showcasing Reigns’ achievements as he tries to put The Rock in a headlock, asking to wrestle.
A young Reigns said: “Come on Dewey, Let’s wrestle.”
To which The Rock responded: “No, the world is not ready! A match that big can happen only at WrestleMania.”
A potential fight between the pair was also teased on the WWE Evil episode about The Tribal Chief, which talks about Reigns’ potential to be one of the greatest ever, however, mentions that his cousin The Rock is still ahead of him.
Reigns was then asked whether he thought the fight between the two could ever go ahead, stating: “I don’t know if he wants it.”
WrestleMania 39 is set to take place in California, at the SOFI Stadium, which is currently home two NFL teams the LA Rams and the LA Chargers.
Speaking of ‘Mania, Reigns is just coming off the back of WrestleMania 38, where he defeated Brock Lesnar to unify the belts, however, the ending to the match didn’t go too smoothly due to an appeared injury sustained to The Big Dog.
He could audibly be heard shouting ‘it’s out’ to Paul Heyman at ringside, before finally hitting Lesnar with a Spear to pick up the pinfall.
