There is "no chance" that Tottenham are going to sign a player like Leicester City's James Maddison this summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Antonio Conte's side, but Jones cannot see a switch happening at this stage.

What is the latest news involving Maddison?

According to The Sun, Tottenham are interested in signing Maddison in a potential £60m deal, with Conte thought to be a fan of the player.

The same outlet, however, states that north London rivals Arsenal are also keen on the attacking midfielder as Mikel Arteta looks to improve his squad.

While Leicester have not been as good as they have been in recent seasons, with the Foxes nowhere near the top four this term, Maddison has still impressed.

In 28 Premier League appearances, the England international has come up with 13 goal contributions, while he has also found the back of the net a few times in Leicester's European campaign.

What has Jones said about Maddison to Tottenham?

Despite his good form this season, Jones does not think Maddison is on Spurs' radar right now and has ruled out the north London club making a move for him this summer.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the football journalist said: "I don't think James Maddison's on the radar at all, to be honest. As far as I'm told, there's no chance that that's the sort of player that they're going to go into the market for at this stage."

Do Tottenham need Maddison?

A player of Maddison's quality would probably be welcomed to Hotspur Way. A few years ago, the Leicester star was compared to England legend David Beckham by former Foxes striker Tony Cottee.

"He reminds me of David Beckham. If you watch him play, he runs like Beckham, he takes free-kicks like Beckham. He’s got great vision, good passer of the ball," Cottee told The Football Show in 2018.

Looking at Spurs' current attack, though, there does not seem to be a pressing need to bring in a player like Maddison for £60m.

Dejan Kulusevski has been a revelation since joining the club, with the Sweden international recently scoring and assisting in the 4-0 win over Aston Villa, while hat-trick hero Son Heung-min and Harry Kane remain undroppable.

The fact that Conte uses a 3-4-3/3-4-2-1 formation, which does not utilise a central No.10, also makes it hard to imagine Tottenham splashing out on someone whose best position is just behind the striker.

Ultimately, unless the Italian plans to use Maddison in midfield, spending £60m on the former Norwich City man does not make a lot of sense.
