Manchester United stars will be made to contend with an 'extremely demanding' Erik ten Hag following his Old Trafford appointment and some of the Red Devils' big names 'won't like it', according to journalist Dean Jones.

Ten Hag appears to be in line to head to the Premier League giants from Dutch side Ajax ahead of next season.

What's the latest news involving ten Hag?

According to The Athletic, Manchester United have reached an agreement in principle with ten Hag as they look to appoint him as their new boss.

The report suggests the 52-year-old is expected to put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal after verbally confirming he will head to Old Trafford, but an announcement will not be forthcoming until after Ajax face PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Cup final on April 17.

Manchester United have been keen to find a new permanent chief as interim manager Ralf Rangnick is due to head into a consultancy role after the campaign reaches its climax.

It appears the Red Devils have persuaded ten Hag to swap the Eredivisie for the Premier League after initially considering other options, including a fresh contract at Ajax.

Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig were also understood to be looking to make a last-ditch attempt to hijack Manchester United's bid to hire ten Hag.

What has Dean Jones said about ten Hag?

Having been speaking to contacts in ten Hag's homeland, Jones understands the Dutchman will be demanding of the squad he inherits at Old Trafford.

The transfer insider fears that may not necessarily go down well with some of Manchester United's big names.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "The main message I’m getting from people in Holland that have worked with him is that he is extremely demanding and no-one will be allowed to slack off.

"We’ll see how this group of players deal with that - some won’t like it."

Why is ten Hag the first choice candidate for the job?

Manchester United have failed to win any silverware since 2017, but getting his hands on trophies is something ten Hag has become accustomed to.

Ten Hag has clinched five trophies during his time at Ajax and even won the double twice, meaning Red Devils fans could once again dream of glory.

He has also made his sides - which also includes Utrecht, Bayern Munich II and Go Ahead Eagles - difficult to beat, having been condemned to just 82 defeats over the course of 431 matches in the dugout.
