Phil Foden appeared to laugh at Diego Simeone’s touchline antics during the closing stages of Wednesday’s heated Champions League quarter-final second leg between Atletico Madrid and Manchester City.
The 21-year-old, who provided the moment of magic that led to Kevin De Bruyne scoring the only goal of the tie during last week’s first leg, was on the receiving end of rough treatment from Atletico’s players at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Simeone’s players knew Foden was one of City’s biggest attacking threats and did all they could to put the gifted young forward off his game.
Foden played most of the match with a head bandage after being clattered by Atletico defender Felipe, who was later sent off for a dangerous challenge on the Englishman.
As he rolled on the ground in pain, Foden was dragged off the pitch by Stefan Savic, who was fortunate to avoid a straight red card for a potential headbutt on Raheem Sterling during the melee moments later.
Nine minute of stoppage-time were added at the end of the game and as Simeone became increasingly animated on the touchline, Foden couldn’t help but see the funny side.
The England international was seen glancing over to Simeone before having a giggle with the City bench.

You’re a brave man, Phil!
Here’s some of the reaction from social media:
Simeone had the home supporters fired up during extra-time as his side pushed in search of a goal that would have sent the tie to extra-time.
But City stood firm and will now face Real Madrid over two legs for a place in this season’s Champions League final.
Beaten by Chelsea in last season’s final, Pep Guardiola and his players are the current favourites to lift the European Cup at the Stade de France on May 28.
