The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Release Date Postponed Again

Witcher 3

The gaming community will be frustrated to hear that developers CD Projekt Red have delayed the re-release of the smash hit game The Witcher 3 for next-gen consoles

The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt is unarguably one of the best RPG games in the recent past and has really set the bar high for other games past it. The game is a sequel to the 2011 game The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and was released on older consoles like the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.

Despite being more than half a decade old at this point, the Witcher 3 game hasn’t died among audiences and is still played and enjoyed by many.

Excitement for this release is high, but a recent announcement from the developers has informed players that they are postponing the release of The Witcher 3 update for next-gen consoles.

The Witcher 3 Next-Gen release date gets postponed by CD Projekt Red ‘until further notice’

Game development delays and pushing back of release dates are becoming increasingly common in the video gaming industry, partly due to the Covid pandemic and work-from-home scenario.

It seems like the next-gen version of The Witcher 3 has met the same fate as CD Projekt Red has decided to: “Postpone Q2 release until further notice.”

As seen from the tweet, the Cyberpunk 2077 developers will be taking over the remaining portion of work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Earlier, the game’s development on the next-gen versions was being done by Saber Interactive, who also managed to port the game to the Nintendo Switch in 2019.

This isn’t the first time The Witcher 3 update for next-gen consoles has been delayed. Initially, CDPR was targeting a late-2021 release date for the free next-gen upgrade for the game but it was later pushed to Q2 2022, and now, it’s unclear when we will get to play the game.

CDPR will surely have their hands full with a lot of things and with the recent messy launch of Cyberpunk 2077, they would surely not want to ship the game in a buggy state.

The developers have also promised that the next-gen version of The Witcher 3 will include free items inspired by the hit Netflix series and some DLCs; however, not much has been shared about it either.

So for now, we will have to wait for an official update from the developers and chances are we might not see the game until Q4 of this year.
