Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is ready to give serious thought to a Paris Saint-Germain transfer as his dream return to the Premier League club heads towards crisis point.

The Belgian forward was ecstatic to move back to Stamford Bridge last summer as he completed a £97.5million move from Italian champions Inter Milan and he started well with four goals from his first four outings back in a Chelsea shirt.

The consistency did not continue though and Lukaku is now on 12 goals from 36 matches in all competitions for the Blues. He is no longer considered a first-choice starter and sources have indicated to GiveMeSport that he is “gutted” at how the campaign has unravelled.

Despite Chelsea currently being under strict transfer sanctions in light of their ownership troubles, Lukaku’s representatives have begun exploring options for the summer and PSG have been open about the prospect of a move.

They are likely to have a space in their front line, with Kylian Mbappe set to sign for Real Madrid, and it is understood they are seriously considering the prospect of signing Lukaku.

The takeover situation in West London will dictate any timeline over a potential move but Chelsea are open minded about how their front line might change ahead of next season.

Various clubs around Europe have an eye on Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi and are waiting to see who might be made available.

Lukaku was signed for a club record fee to become Chelsea’s star central striker yet Kai Havertz has adopted that role and has become one of the most important members of the side.

Now Lukaku is having to consider his options and the 28-year-old is giving thought to how he can get his career back on track quickly.

A television interview with an Italian station in December first cast Lukaku's future into doubt as he declared he was not happy with the way his Chelsea move had opened up under Thomas Tuchel. He even discussed the idea of returning to play for Inter Milan.

They might yet prove to be one of the teams in for him, if they can forgive the fashion in which he quit to make his move back to England.

He had fired Inter to a first Serie A title in 11 years with 24 league goals last season but many supporters were deeply upset by the fact he then left.

As it stands though, PSG are the club looking to kick on with further discussions that would put them in the driving seat to sign him and by the end of the season they are likely to have an outline offer to present the striker.
