Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch should give the club a boost in their bid to sign Red Bull Salzburg attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson, says journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The 21-year-old continues to be linked with a move to Elland Road, and O'Rourke believes his compatriot and former manager being there should work in the Whites' favour.

What is the latest news involving Aaronson?

The Athletic reported towards the end of last month that Leeds plan to make a bid for Aaronson this summer.

This comes after the Yorkshire outfit saw two offers for the American rejected by Salzburg in the January transfer window.

Aaronson has been a key player for the Austrian side this season, making over 30 appearances in all competitions under Matthias Jaissle.

Salzburg were still in the Champions League at the time of Leeds' interest and are aiming to win the Bundesliga title once again, so the Whites failing to get him out of the Red Bull Arena during the winter window did not come as a complete shock.

What has O'Rourke said about Aaronson to Leeds?

O'Rourke, however, still thinks £18m-rated Aaronson joining Leeds is a possibility, especially with Marsch now at Elland Road.

On the USA international, the transfer insider told GIVEMESPORT: "That was the one they tried to do in January and were just not able to do it, so they will definitely rekindle their interest in that one, and Jesse Marsch with his American connections should boost their chances of getting that deal done."

Does Marsch want a reunion with Aaronson?

If Leeds have the chance to sign Aaronson this summer, it is hard to imagine Marsch turning the opportunity down.

He worked with him during his time at Salzburg and is clearly a fan of the player. Last month, the ex-RB Leipzig manager told Leeds Live and other outlets: "I can tell you the whole talk with Brenden Aaronson, this all happened before I even came here.

"Now I know Brenden, I coached him and he's an American, and I think he's a great player. But even when he came to Salzburg, Salzburg found him or knew about him before and came to me before he even came, and then we worked together to think this was the right player for us."

Nothing is obviously done yet, but things do seem to be pointing towards Aaronson moving to Elland Road and Leeds finally getting their man.
