The performances of David de Gea have been one of very few positives for Manchester United in the 2021/22 season.

De Gea was once one of the best goalkeepers in the world but his performance levels dropped considerably.

But, despite United being so poor in 2021/22, De Gea has been back to his best.

The Spaniard has come to United's rescue many times this season. Without him, they would be even worse off than they currently are.

But how does De Gea compare to the rest of the starting goalkeepers in the Premier League?

BetVictor have ranked the 20 starting goalkeepers in England's top tier based on their shot-stopping performance so far in 2021/22.

They've worked out the PSxG (post shot expected goals) of every goalkeeper, which is a figure showing how many goals they should have conceded this season.

That figure is then subtracted by the number of goals they have conceded to come to a PSxG-GA (post shot expected goals - goals against), showing how much a goalkeeper has overperformed or underperformed so far this season.

Each goalkeeper's PSxG-GA is then combined with their save percentage to give them an overall score.

BetVictor have calculated that De Gea has been the second best goalkeeper in the Premier League this season.

He's conceded seven goals fewer than he should have done, highlighting just how well he's played.

The only 'keeper that has been better than him is Sa. The Wolves man has been superb this season, conceding nearly 10 goals fewer than he has been expected to. He also has the best save percentage in England's top tier.

Mendy rounds out the top three, with Alisson just missing out on the podium spots.

Ramsdale, who has earned raved reviews for Arsenal this season, has statistically been the eighth best goalkeeper in the league, just above Ederson.

Pickford has struggled for Everton over the past few seasons and finds himself in the bottom four.

Martinez was arguably the best goalkeeper in the Premier League last season but he's performed no where near to that level this campaign.

He has conceded nearly nine goals more than he should have done in 2021/22, the most in the league.

His save percentage is higher than Foster's, though, meaning the Watford man has been ranked the worst goalkeeper in the Premier League this campaign.
