Celtic chief executive Michael Nicholson will be hoping to tempt Cameron Carter-Vickers into remaining at Parkhead by offering regular game-time and Champions League action, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

As it stands, Carter-Vickers is due to return to Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season, when his loan move from the Premier League side is set to expire.

What's the latest news involving Carter-Vickers?

Nicholson has been put in charge of negotiating Carter-Vickers' permanent switch to Parkhead despite manager Ange Postecoglou being branded the 'chairman of the board in terms of football recruitment' by owner Dermot Desmond.

It appears he has already made inroads as, according to the Daily Record, Celtic are edging closer to agreeing a deal for Carter-Vickers which could rise to £10million with future add-ons.

The report suggests the eight-cap United States international's camp believe remaining with the Bhoys is the best option after enjoying the best spell of his career in Glasgow.

Carter-Vickers has become a key member of Postecoglou's backline and bagged some vital goals in Celtic's pursuit of the Scottish Premiership title, including the winner against arch-rivals Rangers earlier this month.

The 24-year-old has also won his first piece of silverware during his time north of the border thanks to clinching the Scottish League Cup in December.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Carter-Vickers?

O'Rourke believes Nicholson will be pulling out all the stops in an attempt to ensure Carter-Vickers remains at Celtic.

The journalist also feels qualifying for the Champions League - if they go on to pick up the Scottish Premiership title - will play into the Bhoys' hands.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "I think Nicholson will be thinking, 'come here for regular first team football, you know the club and there is a chance to play in the Champions League next season, which would be attractive to all players'.

"I think if he went to Celtic, maybe Celtic will be thinking we can keep him here for a couple of years at least and if he continues to shine and grow then, after that, maybe a move back down to the Premier League might be in the offing for Carter-Vickers.

"He is still quite young and been out on loan a few times from Spurs, so finding a permanent home where he's happy, when seemingly it has worked out for him at Celtic so far this season, might be his best thing to do."

Has Carter-Vickers attracted interest from elsewhere?

It appears plenty of clubs south of the border are keen to secure Carter-Vickers' services, with Burnley joining Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City in hoping to strike a deal.

Another side coveting the centre-half is West Ham United, who have developed an interest despite being arch-rivals with Tottenham.

Watford and Championship outfit Bournemouth may have the upper-hand on other English clubs as they have already been in contact with Spurs ahead of potentially making a move in the summer, but Celtic will hope to win the battle for Carter-Vickers' signature.
