Former heavyweight boxing champion David Haye has explained why Dillian Whyte has a real chance at beating Tyson Fury next weekend.

On April 23 in front of over 90,000 fans, Tyson Fury will defend his WBC and The Ring heavyweight titles against top contender Dillian Whyte.

The two will square off at Wembley Stadium in what can only be described as one of the biggest fights of the year thus far.

In an exclusive chat with GiveMeSport.com, BT Sport pundit and ex-champ David Haye gave his thoughts on the hype surrounding the contest.

“People are really, really buzzing about this fight. You know a fight is big when non-boxing fans are buying a ticket to watch the fight. I’ve had so many people who I know aren’t big boxing fans saying I’ve got my tickets, I waited in line, on the phone or online booking tickets. It’s crossed over now and that’s how you know it’s a big fight.”

One of the most obvious problems facing Whyte heading into the fight is that very few people expect him to overcome ‘The Gypsy King’. As per Haye, though, that could play directly into the hands of ‘Body Snatcher’.

“I think the chances of an upset are very high, because everyone believes it’s so one-sided. In the same way when Anthony Joshua was fighting Andy Ruiz Jr. I was there watching it and very few people believed there was going to be an upset, like there was.

“Tyson Fury has just come off of three mega fights with the same guy, and he’s done it on his own terms, and each time he’s gotten better and more entertaining.”

Haye questions Fury

Despite Fury’s incredible resilience across the Wilder trilogy, Haye doesn’t believe he’ll carry that same energy into the Whyte bout.

“He’s flying high and I just don’t think what he brought to that fight against Deontay Wilder, although it was an amazing performance, knowing how Dillian Whyte fights and how he counter punches, knowing how physically tough he is, his endurance and his heart, I just think that works really well for his style.

“I think people are gonna be very, very surprised and shocked by the way Dillian Whyte puts his punches together.”
