Bizarre scenes in the Serie A yesterday as M'Bala Nzola was subbed on, only to be subbed back off 10 minutes later due to a wardrobe malfunction.

Inter continued their push for the league title against city rivals AC Milan by turning over Spezia 3-1 at the Stadium Alberto Picco - Spezia's home ground.

Goals from Marcelo Brozovic, Lautaro Martinez and Alexis Sanchez were enough to offset the single Spezia goal scored by Guilio Maggiore and move Inter to within two points of the league leaders with one game in hand.

It's not the result though that has got fans talking on social media, but rather the hilarious incident involving Spezia forward Nzola.

The Angolan international was subbed on in the 60th minute with Inter winning 1-0. Clearly, Spezia manager Thiago Motta was looking to add some extra attacking impetus to his side's efforts as they bid to secure a draw.

However, things didn't go exactly to plan, as within a minute the referee had spotted the large earring in Nzola's left ear and ordered him to leave the pitch immediately to remove it.

We don't know if Nzola is new to wearing earrings but that proved an impossible task for the 25-year-old, as he spent several minutes on the sideline fiddling around in a desperate attempt to get the piece of jewellery out.

When it became clear that this could be a task too far for the player himself, the Spezia coaching staff also had their turn. All of whom tried in vain...

Eventually, both annoyed and embarrassed, Nzola threw his arms up in the air and stormed back to the bench, forcing a flabbergasted Motta to use his final substitution to bring on Janis Antiste in his place.

Inter rattled in a second goal just minutes after the incident to put the tie beyond Spezia, who knows how much that unnecessary distraction might have cost the team...

Fortunately, Spezia don't have too much riding on the Serie A given that they lie in 15th position and should be considered a safe bet to avoid the drop.

Either way, though, you can be certain the lad won't be making that mistake again.
