Irish boxing legend Carl Frampton has listed Canelo Alvarez and Tyson Fury amongst the pound-for-pound best fighters in the sport.

When the discussion surrounding P4P begins, the lines can often get quite blurry very quickly. Sometimes fans and media members have recency bias, sometimes they go for skill level over the body of work, and sometimes it’s unanimous.

Everyone in the game views professional boxing in a different way and that’s what keeps the conversation, and the debate, flowing. It’s an ever-changing landscape and if we carry on down this road in the years ahead, nobody is going to be complaining.

One man who has been analysing the best of the best quite closely in recent times is Carl Frampton. Ever since hanging up his gloves, the 35-year-old has made a seamless transition into punditry with BT Sport. Next weekend, he’ll be tasked with his first major assignment when he calls the highly anticipated heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte.

In an exclusive chat with GiveMeSport.com, Frampton went into detail about who he considers to be on the pound-for-pound list - with ‘The Gypsy King’ making an appearance.

“It’s always hard to pick that. You’ve got to have Canelo in there, you’ve got to have Terence Crawford in there, Fury probably, Usyk, Josh Taylor is worth a mention even though obviously the controversial decision against Jack Catterall, but he did get his hand raised if you like that or not.

“Inoue - there’s so many, it’s a difficult one. I always feel like a pound for pound, it’s always hard to judge and you really need to sit down and think about it. I’ve probably missed a few, Errol Spence, he’s worth a mention too.”

“There’s top quality fighters throughout boxing at the minute and it’s in a good state.”

Is Fury the favourite?

Frampton himself told us that he’s edging towards Fury maintaining his unbeaten record against Whyte and while that is a popular opinion, ‘Body Snatcher’ is gaining a lot of traction as the countdown to fight night continues.
