We still haven’t found ourselves getting over the incredible catch that Odell Beckham Junior made back in 2014 during his rookie season in the NFL.
The wide receiver is currently in the process of looking for a new team in the league, having been released by the Los Angeles Rams at the end of this last season having finally won the first Super Bowl of his career, a game in which he put up 52 yards off just two receptions, one of those being a touchdown to get the game’s opening score.
The move to Los Angeles was certainly one that he needed in order to re-energise his career, as he was having quite a few problems with his former team the Cleveland Browns that necessitated the move from Ohio to California.
Problems have followed Beckham throughout his NFL career, having a number of them during his days with the New York Giants, the team that drafted him into the league in 2014 with the 12th overall pick.
However, whilst there have been problems, there have undoubtedly been a number of highlights throughout his career, with arguably none being as recognisable as the one-handed catch that brought him to global attention during the 2014 season.
The New York Giants were certainly not in a great place when the Dallas Cowboys rolled into MetLife Stadium in Week 12 of the 2014 season, they entered it 3-7 with their hopes of reaching the playoffs that season pretty dead.
But that didn’t mean that there still wasn’t something to get the fans that day incredibly excited and give them something to look forward to in the future as the league received it’s next star receiver.
The catch that stunned the world
With the first play of the second quarter and the Giants leading by 7-3, OBJ raced down the sideline with Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr towards the endzone as Eli Manning put the ball up in the air. Carr clearly knew he was beaten and drew a flag for pass interference in the process of trying to keep up.
However that didn’t stop Beckham Jr from managing to adjust his body, reach out with one hand, keep his feet inbounds and cross the goal line to score one of the most ridiculous catches that the sport has ever seen and make catapult Beckham into super-stardom as plenty of famous people flocked to social media to give their take on the catch.
Not the only time he’s done this either
Although to be honest, we should have seen what was coming long before the catch, as he had pulled off similarly great feats whilst in college at LSU, taking this kickoff out of the sky with one hand before taking a knee for a touchback.
And he’s managed to keep up that magic throughout his career in the league, pulling it off multiple times since then.
Beckham certainly is a human highlight-reel, and with a Super Bowl ring to his name now, as well as numerous awards and Pro Bowl honours, he’s certainly put himself into the discussion as one of the best at his position of his generation.
Now let’s see if he’s got anything else in his bag of tricks between now and the end of his career.
