Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo 'has got a future' at Old Trafford even though Erik ten Hag is set to become the Red Devils' new manager, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Ronaldo sealed his return to the red half of Manchester on deadline day of last summer's transfer window, but there have been question marks as to whether he will still be on the club's books by the time next season gets underway.

What's the latest news involving Ronaldo?

Manchester United are set to be under new management heading into the 2022/23 campaign, with interim boss Ralf Rangnick moving into a consultancy role.

It is understood that ten Hag is on the brink of being appointed as the Red Devils' new chief after the current Ajax head coach reached an agreement in principle.

But that could have a major impact on Ronaldo's future despite bagging hat-tricks in the recent home wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Norwich City.

According to the Daily Star, ten Hag has given the green light for the attacker to move onto pastures new when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

The report suggests ten Hag has made it clear to Manchester United that the 186-cap Portugal international is not part of his plans as he does not suit his style of play.

What has Dean Jones said about Ronaldo?

Jones believes Ronaldo's departure from Old Trafford, simply because of ten Hag's impending arrival, is not a foregone conclusion.

The transfer insider feels the attacker's recent form shows it would be a mistake for the Red Devils to sanction the 37-year-old's exit.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "I still think Ronaldo has got a future. I think that people have dismissed Cristiano Ronaldo just because ten Hag is coming in. It's a bit short-sighted.

"Ronaldo has been through various managers and various tactical changes throughout his career. He has always risen to it.

"He's just scored two hat-tricks in a month at Old Trafford. There's barely any other player in the world that can do that."

How has Ronaldo performed so far this season?

Ronaldo has found the back of the net on 21 occasions and racked up a further three assists in 34 appearances since heading back to Old Trafford.

That is no mean feat considering Manchester United are still three points adrift of the Premier League's top four.

However, his return has not resulted in the Red Devils being in the running for silverware, so they have still not got their hands on a trophy since 2017.
