Leeds United want to sign a striker who is proven in the Premier League this summer and could sound out someone like Watford's Emmanuel Dennis, claims transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Yorkshire club are light up front, and Jones is expecting them to address that when the window reopens.

Who has led the line for Leeds this season?

Patrick Bamford started the 2021/22 campaign as Leeds' first-choice striker, which was to be expected after how well he played last term.

In 38 Premier League appearances, the England international scored 17 goals as the Whites went on to claim a place in the top half of the table.

Unfortunately, he has been unable to remain fit this season, meaning that Marcelo Bielsa and Jesse Marsch have had to use the likes of winger Dan James and teenager Joe Gelhardt up front at times.

Considering that, it would come as a shock if Leeds opted against bringing in a new centre-forward this summer.

What has Jones said about Leeds' transfer plans?

According to Jones, Leeds want to bring in a No.9 with Premier League experience and could end up sounding out Dennis.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the football journalist said: "From what I understand, they would much prefer to have somebody who has had a taste of life in England, scoring goals at the top level, so Dennis might be a player they sound out.

"I don't think it's one that's been mooted yet but, absolutely, that is the level of player that they're looking at."

Should Leeds sign Dennis?

Looking at how Dennis has performed this season, the Nigeria international could be a really good addition to Leeds' squad.

He has scored 10 goals in the Premier League and provided five assists, which has helped to keep Watford alive in the battle for survival. Overall, Dennis is a dangerous player who can cause defenders so many problems with his skill set.

"A very talented player. He’s fast, has good skill, always runs straight to the goal - I love these kinds of players,” his former manager Claudio Ranieri told Watford's official club website back in November.

What also makes Dennis appealing is the fact that if the Hornets do end up going down, which looks likely at this point, Leeds should be able to pick him up for a decent price.

Quite clearly, the Whites need a new forward, so why not Dennis should he become available?
