Leeds United supporters 'might be surprised' by the stars Jesse Marsch will look to welcome to Elland Road during the summer window, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Marsch was appointed as the Whites' head coach in February and he could look to freshen up the squad he inherited from predecessor Marcelo Bielsa.

Who could join Leeds in the summer?

According to Football Insider, RB Leipzig central defender Josko Gvardiol has been a long-term target for Leeds and the Yorkshire giants are set to head to the negotiating table.

The report suggests the 10-cap Croatia international is still being monitored by director of football Victor Orta and his recruitment team despite missing out on his services close to two years ago.

But Leeds will have to battle to sign the 20-year-old as Tottenham Hotspur are also understood to be tracking Gvardiol.

Meanwhile, Marsch is reportedly keen to sign fellow Americans Brenden Aaronson and Sergino Dest, who are currently on the books of Red Bull Salzburg and Barcelona respectively.

Spanish sources have revealed Barcelona have considered offering right-back Dest as part of a deal which would take Leeds winger Raphinha to the Nou Camp.

What has Dean Jones said about the situation?

Jones believes Marsch has set his sights on welcoming some eye-catching additions to Elland Road as he looks to put his stamp on the Leeds squad.

The transfer insider feels the upcoming change of ownership, which will see 49ers Enterprises gain 100 per cent control of the Premier League side by January 2024, could also have an impact on the Whites' summer plans.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "I think we might be surprised by the level of player that they end up signing in the summer.

"They know that they've got to get a lot, lot better for next season because the competition is going to get even tougher and they really can't consider relegation at a time when they're about to have all this investment coming from the 49ers."

Why could Marsch look to splash the cash?

Leeds may have put daylight between themselves and the relegation zone since Marsch's appointment, but they still have the worst defensive record in the Premier League.

Conceding 68 goals in 32 outings is a clear indication that the Whites need to bolster their backline heading into next season, while Raphinha is being courted by Barcelona.

The winger's departure would add a significant amount of cash to Marsch's transfer budget, but keeping him at Elland Road and adding further attacking reinforcements could result in Leeds having a formidable forward line next season.
