Sport's greatest comebacks, featuring Eriksen, Jordan, Woods & Nadal

We all love a truly great sporting comeback, don’t we?

There’s just nothing that can quite match the rush of an individual or a team overcoming insurmountable odds to claim glory in their chosen field.

It’s the comebacks that are remembered most fondly throughout the pages of history, much more so than one-sided hammerings or long monopolies of the big prizes.

The debate as to what might be the greatest of all the comeback is a fierce one but, thanks to nationwide research conducted by 888 Sport, we may just be able to answer that question.

Traversing the length and breadth of the country, 888 asked sports fans what they felt was the greatest individual comeback they have ever seen.

With options like Tiger Woods returning to win The Masters in 2019, Michael Jordan’s return to basketball or Niki Lauda’s career post his awful crash, fans had a proverbial smorgasbord to choose form.

However, while all of the above moments are truly epic in their own right, it was a certain Christian Eriksen who came out on top in the survey.

The Danish wizard made his return to professional football with Brentford this season after months on the sidelines following his horrific heart incident at the European Championships last year.

A terrified world watched on as medical professionals worked frantically to save Eriksen’s life after collapsed on the pitch during his nation’s group stage clash with Finland.

Once stable, he was rushed to hospital for further treatment where, thankfully, he began to get better.

Despite those positive signs, it was widely assumed that he would never play football again but it would seem he had different ideas.

Not even a year on from that awful day, Eriksen is back in the Premier League and looking like his old self once again – a sight that clearly resonates with sports fans in the UK.

It’s an utter joy to see Eriksen back doing what he loves and it is hard to argue that it one of sport’s greatest stories.

Here’s to you Christian, the true comeback king.
