Legendary boxer Mike Tyson has given us an incredible insight into the current crop of elite level heavyweights.
Wilder was up first.
“Having a hard punch is like having a nuclear war, but it doesn’t serve any military value if it doesn’t land on his target.”
Wilder is world renowned for his incredible punching power and hit Fury with a frightening right hand that would have knocked out almost any other fighter in their trilogy of fights.
Next was Usyk, the Ukrainian champion who defeated Joshua in his last fight – beating the Brit via unanimous decision.
“Usyk is very hard to hit, he has that elite amateur level movement. It was too much for Joshua.”
On the subject of Joshua, Tyson said: “He has never lost hope, he is still learning. That’s why he’s dangerous. Joshua needs to pick up the pace, he’s got so much potential. He has got to turn those jabs into something.
“Joshua is no walk over. He’s going to have a beautiful life after boxing, he’s beautiful.”
And finally, on current champion Tyson Fury.
“It’s weird to take him seriously, because he’s so funny. He doesn’t take fighting seriously, he laughs at people, licking the blood. What’s wrong with this guy? You’ve got to be out of your mind.
“He would be a prophet in biblical times, how do you explain how good he is? They couldn’t explain that.”
High praise from Tyson, who was an incredible fighter in his prime.
Fury goes up against Dillian Whyte this week in what could be his last fight as he hints at retirement.
Getting an insight from one of the greatest ever boxers is always a pleasure, and we could listen to him talking about boxing all day.
