Crystal Palace: 'Unthinkable' Selhurst Park exit could happen this summer

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira

Crystal Palace selling Wilfried Zaha would have been “unthinkable” a year ago but not anymore, claims Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The 29-year-old is out of contract next summer, and Bridge has suggested that the Eagles letting him go is no longer a terrifying thought.

What is the latest news involving Zaha?

According to the MailOnline, Palace are willing to listen to offers for Zaha at the end of the season due to his contract situation.

The same report also states that the rise of Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze is another reason why the south London club are more open to allowing their talisman to leave.

The former, in particular, has really impressed this term, with Vieira describing the France U21 international as a “special talent”.

“When you look at the last round and this one, he played well. He can score goals, create chances and he is a special talent,” Vieira told reporters (via The Independent) when talking about Olise’s performance in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

“He will improve and get better as a player. His work ethic every day has been terrific since he has been at the football club.”

What has Bridge said about Zaha?

Bridge has told GIVEMESPORT that he is not currently hearing anything about Zaha’s future; however, the Sky Sports journalist does think it is something to keep an eye on.

Speaking to GMS, he said: “I’ve not heard anything about him leaving or staying yet. What I would say is a few years ago, it would’ve been unthinkable for Palace to lose him.

“Now it would maybe be, ‘Let’s sit down and discuss it.’ Manager, chairman, Dougie Freedman. ‘Let’s talk about this in the summer; let’s talk to Wilfried Zaha. What do you want to do?’ That could be one to look at in the summer.”

Should Palace sell Zaha this summer?

Zaha is a player most managers would want in their squad. He has had a strong campaign, netting over 10 times in the Premier League, while he remains Palace’s best dribbler.

What year did Crystal Palace legend Ian Wright leave the club?

No player in Vieira’s squad is averaging more dribbles per league game than the £36m-rated Ivory Coast international (via WhoScored).

However, his contract situation is obviously a problem. Therefore, if Palace cannot get him to put pen to paper on an extension, then they may have no choice but to sanction a sale in the summer transfer window.
