Emma Raducanu has revealed that Harry Kane inspired her to become a Tottenham Hotspur fan last year.

The US Open champion was spotted training in a Spurs shirt with her own name on the back yesterday as she prepares for this week’s Stuttgart Open.

Raducanu, who was born in Canada but resides in Bromley in South East London, previously expressed her support for England at last year’s European Championships but has now confirmed where her domestic allegiances lie.

Raducanu reveals why she chose Spurs

After sporting a personalised Spurs shirt on the practice courts at the Porsche Arena, Raducanu told reporters how she started supporting the club.

"My whole team basically are big Spurs fans and I feel like they're egging me on," she said. "They're desperately trying to get me behind them. I don't necessarily follow football so much, but I feel like now because of them I'm feeling some sort of connection.”

The 19-year-old also emphasised that she enjoyed watching Kane play at the Euros last summer and is a huge admirer of his Spurs strike-partner Heung-min Son.

"I loved following the Euros last year and watching Harry Kane, who's obviously the England captain, and [Heung-min] Son, I'm a big fan of him as well. So yeah, I like to dabble."

Raducanu is not the only famous figure to be a Tottenham supporter. Sir Alan Sugar used to be a part-owner of the club, while actor Tom Holland and singer Adele are also big fans of the club.

Raducanu feeling confident on clay

The British number one secured her first professional win on clay in the Billie Jean King Cup for Great Britain last week and says that victory has given her the belief she can succeed on the surface.

"It gives me confidence for sure because I played Martincova, who's a great opponent, in Prague, which is her home place," Raducanu said. "It was a heavy clay court. Conditions were cold. So to get that win definitely gave me a lot of confidence. She's a great opponent.”

Raducanu also stressed that she feels as though she’s only going to get better on clay and believes it could one day be her favoured surface.

"It's going to be an exciting clay season. I'm not sure how it is going to go. I keep telling everyone around me that one day clay is going to be my surface and I still believe that."

Raducanu is seeded eighth in Stuttgart and faces Austrian qualifier Storm Sanders in the first round.

This will be her first clay-court tournament on the WTA tour and will no doubt help the Brit gain valuable experience ahead of Roland-Garros later this month.
