The Imola Grand Prix is back for another year as the famous old circuit marks the first European race of the 2022 season.

Imola had dropped off of the F1 calendar but came to the sport's aid during the pandemic to help beef up the schedule and it is now in line for its third straight Grand Prix in the last few years.

Indeed, it's great to see old circuits like this back on the calendar and, hopefully, it'll serve up another cracking race, similar to the one we saw in 2021.

Certainly, part of the reason we had such a belting Grand Prix in 2021 was the fact that the weather was so mixed over the course of the race, and that nicely brings us to the forecast for this weekend...

Friday

We could have wet and cool conditions for Friday, as things currently stand, with an 86% chance of rain currently forecast.

Practice and qualifying takes place on Friday this week, with Sprint returning for the first time this season and therefore jumbling up the usual running order.

Saturday

On Saturday, things will warm up a bit from 16C to the low 20s, but there remains a chance of showers, though not as high as on Friday.

Currently, there's a 36% chance of rain on Saturday.

Sunday

Sunday is likely to be the warmest day of the race weekend, according to current forecasts.

There's a 24% chance of rain, too, so it is also the most likely to be dry.

It appears a mixed weekend is on the way, though, and that always adds an extra dynamic to the racing when that is the case.
