Celtic face ‘a big job’ in trying to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 24-year-old has excelled for the Hoops this season after arriving on a season-long loan back in August that also includes the option to buy in the upcoming summer transfer window.

What is the latest news involving Carter-Vickers?

According to the Daily Record, Celtic have been told it will cost around £10 million if they want to sign Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis following the conclusion of the current campaign.

It was originally believed that Tottenham were demanding £6m for the USA international, but that figure could rise to double figures with two separate add-ons.

However, TEAMtalk have claimed that Ange Postecoglou’s charges are set to face extensive competition for Carter-Vickers’ signature, with a host of Premier League and Championship sides also eager to snap him up.

The report states that Leicester City, West Ham, Wolves, Burnley and Watford, alongside second tier trio Middlesbrough, West Brom and Bournemouth are also showing an interest in the centre-back.

It remains to be seen whether any of the aforementioned sides submit a concrete offer for Carter-Vickers, but Sky Sports have previously disclosed that Celtic intend to trigger their option-to-buy clause.

What has O’Rourke said about Celtic?

Despite the success of Carter-Vickers’ stint at Parkhead, O’Rourke believes the Glasgow giants will face a tricky task fending off the competition for the centre-back.

In an exclusive interview, he told GiveMeSport: “It’s a big job for Celtic to try and get this deal over the line.

“He’s been a huge success since his arrival from Tottenham on loan, and I'm sure Michael Nicholson at Celtic will be hoping to convince Carter-Vickers to sign on a permanent basis with the lure of Champions League football if Celtic do go on and win the SPL title this year.

“The chance to play at the highest level and enhance his own CV and everything else.”

How well has Carter-Vickers been playing?

Carter-Vickers has made 40 appearances for Celtic across all competitions so far this season, scoring four goals and helping them claim the League Cup crown.

As per WhoScored, the 6 foot ace has won 4.2 aerial duels, while also making 1.2 interceptions, 4.2 clearances and 0.4 blocks per league game, placing him in the top three when compared to his teammates for each metric.

Therefore, it’s little surprise that Postecoglou and Celtic are keen to tie down Carter-Vickers to a long-term deal in the imminent future.
