Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has compared Katie Taylorâs fight against Amanda Serrano to Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao.
On April 30 at Madison Square Garden, Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano will meet in what many consider to be the biggest fight in the history of womenâs boxing. Both fighters have enjoyed a great deal of success throughout their respective careers and in New York City, theyâll battle for the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring female lightweight titles.
Serrano currently sits at 42-1-1 after a dominant featherweight run whereas Taylor is 20-0 with an incredibly impressive list of fallen foes on her record.
The contest is being pushed to the moon by their respective promoters and understandably so, as it could well determine who the best pound-for-pound female boxer on the planet is.
In an interview with talkSPORT, Eddie Hearn didnât hold back when bigging it up as a truly historic event.
âWhen I break it down, forget womenâs boxing and forget menâs boxing here. This is a great fight,â Hearn said. âItâs almost like the Mayweather-Pacquiao of womenâs boxing. Youâve got an undisputed champion against the seven-division world champion.
âThereâs another fight that night. Shakur Stevenson is fighting Oscar Valdez in a unification fight on ESPN. What an amazing fight.
âNo one is talking about it. Everyone that night will be dialled into Taylor-Serrano and thatâs the greatest compliment I can give. I canât wait to see Katie walk out on that stage, on that platform. Itâll be a very proud moment.â
The Jake Paul role
Hearn is leading the charge for Taylor on the promotional side of things with Jake Paul, of all people, taking up a similar role on behalf of Serrano.
Most Valuable Promotions has been getting behind Serrano for months now with Paul taking a keen interest in her rise to superstardom, to the point where sheâs featured on the same card as him twice in the last twelve months.
While some may have expected him to not take this seriously, the opposite has been true with âThe Problem Childâ doing everything in his power to ensure MSG is rocking at the end of the month.
