According to the Daily Mail, Erling Haaland has agreed a deal in principle with Manchester City worth a staggering £500,00 per week.

Yes, Man City are shipping out BIG for the Norwegian hitman. They will still need to fork out £63 million to trigger the release clause in his current contract with Borussia Dortmund, but that by itself would seem like a bargain in the current market.

The wages are where things are getting rather extravagant given his £500,000 per week salary would make him the highest paid player in the Premier League - edging out Cristiano Ronaldo's £480,000 deal by the skin of his teeth.

It's crazy money, unquestionably, ridiculous money.

The reaction

Unsurprisingly, the sheer quantity of money involved has sparked much debate throughout media platforms and the outspoken talkSPORT broadcaster Simon Jordan had his say on the matter earlier today:

"We are already in the territory of ridiculous returns for footballers," he said on the White and Jordan show.

"I don't begrudge anyone making money, people deserve to be successful and if they're good at what they do they should get rewarded, but we are getting to the level now where what footballers are getting paid is ridiculous.

"No one should really want this, we throw these figures around in a country that's got food banks up the ying yang, as if 500 grand a week on a footballer is just something we should all accept.

"They're not worth it. He's not worth £500 grand a week."

A passionate defence there from the former Crystal Palace chairman. He then continued to discuss what granting Haaland the £500k per week would do in terms of enhancing the problem of ballooning Premier League salaries.

"Do you want to know what a 500 grand a week salary does, this is what a 500 grand salary does...

"It makes a 200 grand salary look like average pay. So, someone that's average in the Premier League gets £10 million pounds a year.

"And then you've got to sit back and pause for a second and think, half of these players can only kick with one foot... and they are getting £10 million pounds a year!

"That's what a 500k salary does."
