Cristiano Ronaldo announced on Monday evening that his baby son had tragically passed away.

The Portuguese announced in October 2021 that he was expecting twins with his partner Georgina Rodriguez.

He wrote in a statement on social media: "It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel.

"Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.

"We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support.

"We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time.

"Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you."

Ronaldo is spending time with his family and was not available for Manchester United's Premier League clash against Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday evening.

Players from both sides wore black armbands as they paid tribute to Ronaldo's family.

And, despite it being a massive rivalry, Liverpool and United fans came together to pay a special tribute to Ronaldo's family.

In the seventh minute of the game, supporters from both sides in the stadium rose to their feet and gave a minute's round of applause.

A rendition of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' also broke out.

It was a special moment and you can watch it below...

What a classy gesture from the supporters of both sides.

The score was 1-0 to Liverpool at the time.

The hosts came racing out of the blocks and took the lead after just five minutes, with Mohamed Salah crossing for Luis Diaz to break the deadlock.

Salah then made it 2-0 in the 22nd minute.
