Manchester United players look like they're desperate for the 2021/22 season to end.

The Red Devils were thrashed 4-0 by Liverpool on Tuesday evening, a result that seriously harms the team's hopes of finishing in the top four.

United's aggregate scoreline versus their bitter rivals in league action this campaign now reads 9-0, following the 5-0 hammering they received at Old Trafford last year.

A brace from Mohamed Salah and goals from his partners-in-crime Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane secured the latest emphatic victory for Jurgen Klopp's well-oiled machine.

United were simply second-best all over the park at Anfield, with the likes of Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Marcus Rashford struggling immensely.

There was literally only one positive for Ralf Rangnick's side to take from the game and that was Hannibal Mejbri's short, but eventful, cameo.

The Tunisia international replaced fellow youngster Anthony Elanga in the 84th-minute and it's safe to say he left an impression on the game.

Mejbri came on and charged around the pitch maniacally in order to close down Liverpool players - which his supposedly superstar teammates certainly did not do.

He made a number of fouls and was given a yellow card for his troubles, but at least Mejbri showed some fight.

Both Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita were on the receiving end of Mejbri's enthusiasm.

Of course, we're not condoning foul play here, we're simply saying that the 19-year-old at least displayed some passion in a derby match.

The fact it took a teenager with little to no first-team experience to come on and do that is a truly damning reflection of United...

While on commentary duty with Sky Sports, Gary Neville - who was heavily critical of his boyhood club all evening in the gantry - said he was "proud" of Mejbri's brief showing.

“It takes a young kid to come on to show them how to sprint and put a challenge in," Neville said. "I’m actually proud of him.”

After his cameo against Liverpool, don't be surprised if Mejbri is handed more first-team opportunities by Rangnick in the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

What's the manager got to lose, eh?
