Aston Villa have shown they have 'a lot of ambition' by setting their sights on welcoming Matthias Ginter and Ibrahim Sangare to Villa Park this summer, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Steven Gerrard, who was appointed as the Midlands side's head coach last November, could be given the opportunity to splash the cash when the transfer window reopens for business.

What's the latest news involving Ginter and Sangare?

According to Sky Germany, via Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas, Villa are among a host of clubs interested in acquiring Borussia Monchengladbach defender Ginter.

Thomas has suggested the 46-cap Germany international is in-demand heading into the summer, with Juventus, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United also sending scouts to watch him in action this season.

Ginter may be valued at £21.6million by Transfermarkt, but he will be available on a free transfer in a matter of months as his Monchengladbach contract is set to expire on June 30.

Meanwhile, Dutch media outlet VI have revealed that Sangare is one of two PSV Eindhoven players Gerrard is interested in tempting to Villa Park.

It is understood that Gerrard was in the King Power Stadium stands as the Eredivisie giants took on Leicester City in the Europa Conference League earlier this month, with him keeping a close eye on defensive midfielder Sangare and winger Noni Madueke.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about the situation?

O'Rourke believes Villa are showing they mean business by looking to negotiate deals for Ginter and Sangare.

However, the journalist warns it will not be easy to persuade them to head to the Midlands due to widespread interest.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "I think these are the types of players that Aston Villa should be looking at, but there will be big competition for these players as well.

"Ginter is available on a free from Monchengladbach in the summer and I think there's a lot of interest across Europe in him.

"But it just shows that Aston Villa do have a lot of ambition because they're actually in the market for these types of signings."

Why are Ginter and Sangare of interest to Villa?

Ginter has enjoyed a stellar career in his homeland, winning the DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup during his time on the books of former employers Borussia Dortmund, while he has also won the World Cup and Confederations Cup at international level.

Gerrard is keen to instill a winning mentality at Villa Park and 28-year-old Ginter certainly boasts that.

Meanwhile, 20-cap Ivory Coast star Sangare would add steel to the Midlands giants' midfield if he were to head to the Premier League from PSV.

The 24-year-old is a key member of the Dutch outfit's side, with him already racking up more than 40 appearances since the campaign got underway, while he has also got his hands on silverware this year.
