Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez would be a "massively exciting" signing for Tottenham, claims Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The Argentine was a reported target for the north London club last summer and is still thought to be on their shortlist.

What is the latest news involving Martinez?

According to Italian outlet Corriere della Sera, Tottenham are one outfit who are interested in signing Martinez in the upcoming transfer window.

They claim that the 24-year-old will be allowed to leave the San Siro, with Inter ready to ask for up to €70m (£58m) for their star man.

Last August, The Times reported that Tottenham had actually agreed a £60m deal with Inter to bring Martinez to Hotspur Way, but it was not a transfer that they were able to get over the line in the end.

Martinez is having another strong season, with the Argentina international recently reaching the 15-goal landmark in Serie A after registering against Spezia last week.

What has Brown said about Martinez to Tottenham?

All in all, it is not a shock that Tottenham want Martinez so badly, and Brown believes his addition would be a very exciting one.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Daily Star reporter said: "That'd be a massively exciting signing, but it would cost Spurs a lot of money. I just think if they're to spend a huge amount this summer, it's clearly going to be on a striker because they were willing to spend quite big in January to bring one in."

Is anyone else interested in Martinez?

Tottenham are not going to get a free run at Martinez, which is hardly a surprise given the calibre of player the Inter star is.

Corriere della Sera have also reported that Atletico Madrid are interested in the player, while Gianluca Di Marzio recently claimed that the Spanish giants are actually his preference if he decides to move club this summer.

Whoever gets Martinez, should he depart Inter, will be obtaining an elite forward. Speaking about the former Racing Club hitman in the past, Argentina team-mate Lionel Messi said (via talkSPORT): “He’s spectacular. He has impressive qualities. You could tell he was going to be a great player and he is showing that.

"He’s very strong, really good one on one, scores a lot of goals, and in the area, he fights with anyone. [He] holds it up, he can turn, scrap to win it all on his own. He has a lot of quality. He’s very complete."

£58m is a lot of money, but Martinez looks worth it. He could be an incredible addition to Antonio Conte's squad.
