Wolves are in talks with midfielder Ruben Neves over a new deal but could still lose him this summer, claims transfer insider Pete O'Rourke.

The Portugal international is approaching the final two years of his contract and continues to be linked with a move away from Molineux.

What is the latest news involving Neves?

According to Sky Sports, Mikel Arteta has made Neves a top target as he looks to improve his Arsenal midfield.

The same report states that the 25-year-old could cost the Gunners £60m, which is nowhere near the fee Bruno Lage thinks he has the potential to bring in.

The Wolves manager recently suggested that Neves could fetch up to £100m in this current market.

"When you have a top player like him in that specific position, that can defend and attack, and is a top professional and a great man, the big teams are there with £100m to buy these kinds of players," Lage was recently quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

What has O'Rourke said about Neves' future?

O'Rourke has told GIVEMESPORT that Neves is in talks with Wolves over a new deal but an exit this summer is still a strong possibility.

Speaking to GMS, the football journalist said: "I think Wolves are going to find it hard to keep hold of him this year. Talks are ongoing over a new deal, but I think there's a realisation on both parties here that maybe the time has come for them to move on.

"I'm sure Ruben Neves in the summer will have a big decision to make on his future."

Should Neves sign a new contract at Wolves?

Neves has probably accomplished all he can at Wolves. The former Porto man helped the Midlands club to win promotion to the Premier League back in 2018 and has played in Europe with them.

Champions League would be the next thing on the agenda, but it is a tall order for Lage's side given the quality of the other sides competing for those spots at the top of the table.

Considering that, now could be a good time for Neves to depart Molineux rather than put pen to paper on a new deal.

In terms of potential destinations, there is, of course, Arsenal, while their top-four rivals Manchester United have also been mentioned.

According to The Sun, Erik ten Hag will make the midfield maestro his No.1 target, so you can expect both the Gunners and Red Devils to test Wolves' resolve when the transfer window opens.
