The last few years have provided us with a strange yet intriguing insight into the world of celebrity boxing. From YouTubers to basketball players and beyond, everyone is throwing their name into the hat in pursuit of a big payday.
We’ve also witnessed a string of former MMA stars taking part in crossover events, including Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley, who both suffered defeat at the hands of Jake Paul.
‘The Problem Child’ is currently on the hunt for his next opponent as he prepares for a return to the squared circle, likely in August.
Michael Bisping and Tommy Fury have been touted as the likeliest foes but Daniel Cormier, who has had his own run-in with Paul in the past, threw out a different suggestion in a recent video.
“Bisping is finally one that’s his size, so Jake Paul wants to fight someone his size. He called me out and I’m bigger than him, but I don’t know if that was ever a real thing. But with Bisping, he’s actually his size.”
“But, hey, it’s like, if you wanna fight someone who is your size but older, you’re still a young man in your physical prime. You want an older guy to fight? Hey, there’s a former UFC champion that is doing exactly what you’re doing. His name is Anderson Silva. That’s who you should be fighting, Jake. That’s who you should be calling out.”
The Anderson Silva story
Anderson Silva is best known for his historic run as UFC middleweight champion that saw him knock off some of the biggest and best 185-pounders in the world.
After his UFC stint eventually came to an end in 2020, ‘The Spider’ went in search of a new adventure in professional boxing.
He kicked off his run with a bang by defeating Julio César Chávez Jr via split decision to the shock of many within combat sports. From there he knocked out Tito Ortiz, before setting up an exhibition match with Bruno Machado that’ll go down on May 14 in Dubai.
