It's far to say that the tight end position has gone through something of a revolution over the past decade or so in the National Football League.

Having started off as primarily a blocking position when the role was first invented, the tight end, whilst still being made to perform blocking duties, has become an integral part of plenty of NFL offenses, with some teams placing more of an emphasis on them than their wide receivers.

Afterall, would the New England Patriots dynasty of the 2010s have been the same were it not for the input of Rob Gronkowski and, to a lesser extent, Aaron Hernandez? It really was those two that began the true evolution of the tight end into what it is today.

And as a result, there are some around the league who can command quite a high salary when it comes to their contracts.

But just who leads the league when it comes to securing the bag when it comes to their salary? GiveMeSport has dug out the top ten tight ends in the league to see which one of them holds the crown.

All figures provided by Spotrac and reflect the overall value of the full length of the player's contract:

10 - Kyle Pitts, Atlanta Falcons, $32.9m

9 - Hunter Henry, New England Patriots, $37.5m

8 - Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints, $40m

7 - Cameron Brate, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, $40.8m

6 - Jonnu Smith, New England Patriots, $50m

5 - David Njoku, Cleveland Browns, $54.75m

4 - Mark Andrews, Baltimore Ravens, $56m

3 - Dallas Goedert, Philadelphia Eagles, $57m

2 - Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs, $57.25m

1 - George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers, $75m

Given how the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers have performed incredibly well over the past few years in terms of Conference championship and Super Bowl appearances, you can say that the money has certainly been well spent, thus proving how much a talented tight end can help your team.

Now we just wait to see if the other members in the top ten can help do the same with their sides moving forward.
