Everton could look to lure Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin to Goodison Park if Frank Lampard succeeds in keeping the Toffees in the Premier League, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

Lampard was appointed as the Merseyside outfit's manager on deadline day of the January transfer window, but it appears he has already identified targets ahead of potentially splashing the cash in the summer.

What's the latest news involving Saint-Maximin?

According to 90min, Everton are keeping tabs on Saint-Maximin's situation after it has become clear that Newcastle are open to the Frenchman moving onto pastures new.

The report suggests the Toffees will only be able to strengthen their interest if they stave off relegation to the Championship, but they are not Saint-Maximin's only suitors as Wolverhampton Wanderers are also keen.

Aston Villa are another club monitoring developments, while it is understood that the 25-year-old's current employers are seeking £50million for his services.

Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope has revealed Newcastle could look to cash-in on Saint-Maximin due to wanting to generate funds to stay ahead of spending regulations.

The Magpies are in a strong negotiating position if Everton or any other suitors look to test their resolve as Saint-Maximin's £93,000-per-week contract still has more than four years to run.

What has Paul Brown said about Saint-Maximin?

Brown believes an Everton move for Saint-Maximin will only be possible if they maintain their Premier League status.

The journalist feels the Toffees will need to show ambition to persuade the wide-man to swap St James' Park for Goodison Park.

However, he has also warned that Lampard may be forced to sell one of his prised assets in order to find the cash to strike a deal with Newcastle.

Brown told GIVEMESPORT: "If they were to stay up, something was to change dramatically and they were to show a certain level of ambition - maybe that's by selling a player and using that money to reinvest in the squad - it could be possible."

Would Saint-Maximin be a good signing?

Saint-Maximin offers bags of Premier League experience and, over the course of more than 80 appearances in the competition, he has shown he can be a threat in the final third of the pitch.

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville - via the Shields Gazette - has described Saint-Maximin as 'breathtaking', emphasising the fact he would excite Everton fans if he were to head to Goodison Park in a big-money move.

His pace and trickery, which has also led to former Newcastle midfielder Rob Lee calling him 'unplayable' at times, could make Lampard's charges more of a threat next term.
