Rangers: 'Real possibility' 159-goal star will leave Ibrox

Alfredo Morelos might have played his last game for Rangers, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The £11.7m-rated striker has been an outstanding servant since he joined the Ibrox club in 2017 and netted his 100th goal for the club earlier this season.

However, Morelos has been ruled out for the rest of the campaign following a thigh injury sustained on international duty with Colombia and could face speculation about his future this summer.

What’s the latest news involving Morelos?

Morelos was enjoying another fine season at the top end of the pitch for Rangers, scoring 19 goals across all competitions, with his most recent coming against Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League.

However, the 25-year-old suffered a thigh injury in training during the last international break, which has ended his season early.

What is the capacity of Ibrox?

Morelos recently underwent surgery on the problem, with Rangers expecting him back for the start of pre-season.

But with just 14 months remaining on his Gers contract, Morelos could face uncertainty over his future, especially after he recently changed agents.

Should he end his five-year stay with the Glasgow giants this summer, he’ll have played his final game in blue, and O’Rourke reckons that could yet prove to be the case.

What did O’Rourke say about Morelos?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It could be a real possibility that we have seen the last of Morelos in a Rangers shirt. We’ve had speculation about his future every transfer window since he’s been at the club.

“He’s scored goals again in Europe, which is going to attract interest from teams in the Premier League and across Europe, and he will not be short of offers in the summer because of his goalscoring record.”

Does Morelos still have a future at Rangers?

Just like almost every transfer window since Morelos signed from Finland, it’s likely to be another uncomfortable summer for the Rangers hierarchy.

According to Football Insider, the Scottish Premiership champions are preparing to face bids for the striker, who’s scored 113 goals for the Ibrox club, which has taken the total in his career to 159.

Rangers’ fortunes in the Europa League could hold significance to Morelos’ future, too. If Giovanni van Brockhorst’s side win the competition, then they’ll qualify straight to the group stages of the Champions League, which could entice the Colombia international to stay for another season.

Equally, Rangers could also be playing in Europe’s elite competition if they don’t win the Europa League, although they’ll have to navigate their way through the qualifiers, something they weren’t able to do earlier this season.
