Cody Rhodes shuts down WWE return rumour

Cody Rhodes returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38 in April

Cody Rhodes says only WrestleMania was considered as the stage for his WWE return.

Rhodes left AEW in February and it sparked months of speculation that the 36-year-old was set to return to WWE, six years after leaving the company.

Reports soon emerged that Cody had indeed re-signed with WWE, and it prompted weeks of expectation of when The American Nightmare would re-debut. With some heavily expecting him to appear on an episode of Monday Night Raw from Jacksonville, Florida – given its links with AEW.

In the end fans had to wait until WrestleMania itself to see Cody make his emotional return, and speaking to on Out of Character with Ryan Satin, he revealed that was the only event ever considered to mark his comeback.

I mean, as far as my understanding the plan was always WrestleMania and nothing was ever considered. At one point, I saw people talking about Jacksonville, and that’s a no. Again, it’s not about leaving. It was about returning and the place to do it was at The Showcase Of The Immortals.

The biggest stage there is in what we do, undisputed is WrestleMania. There was a lot of synergy and love over the fact that it was Dallas, Texas. That is where I had my last WrestleMania with the Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Championship.

In Dallas, Rhodes was revealed as Seth Rollins mystery WrestleMania opponent and would go on to defeat The Visionary in front of the rabid crowd inside the AT&T Stadium. The pair are set to renew acquaintances once again, with a rematch scheduled for next month’s WrestleMania Backlash Premium Live Show on May 8.
