Everton could ‘let Allan go’ in the upcoming summer transfer window as he’s ‘made no noises’ about signing a new contract, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The 31-year-old arrived at Goodison Park from Napoli back in September 2020 via a £21.7 million deal but has perhaps failed to have the desired impact in that time.

What is the latest news involving Allan?

Allan joined Everton alongside Abdoulaye Doucoure, James Rodriguez and Ben Godfrey under the tutelage of former manager Carlo Ancelotti in what was seen as an exciting set of signings at the time.

But despite a promising start to last season, the new additions could only guide the Toffees to a midtable finish, and the sudden departure of Ancelotti had a devastating impact.

Everton have been embroiled in a relegation battle for the majority of the current campaign after things quickly turned sour following Rafa Benitez’s appointment, with Allan unable to drag his side up the table.

The 10-cap Brazil international has started 24 Premier League games this term, yet his underlying numbers indicate his performance levels have been sub-par.

As per WhoScored, Allan - who earns £120,000-per-week - has been awarded a season rating of just 6.51, the joint 16th lowest total amongst the Everton first-team squad.

What has Brown said about Allan?

Allan’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2023, meaning the upcoming window may be the last opportunity for Everton’s hierarchy to recoup some of their substantial outlay.

And Brown has revealed ‘it sounds like’ the Merseysiders will sanction the South American’s departure as he’s ‘made no noises’ about putting pen to paper on fresh terms.

He told GiveMeSport: “It sounds like they'll let Allan go. He's got one year left and has made no noises about wanting to re-sign. He's 31; that's probably his time done.”

Would Allan be a big loss?

Although Allan has put in several underwhelming performances this season, Everton’s lack of strength in depth in the defensive midfielder area means he remains an important player.

Fabian Delph is 32 and has played fewer than 40 games in the near three years he’s been on the club’s books due to persistent injury problems and is out of contract at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Tom Davies has also been plagued by fitness concerns and doubts remain over his ability to compete at the highest level on a consistent basis.

A suitable replacement must surely be brought in before Allan is allowed to exit then, ensuring Everton’s defence is well protected in the years to come.
