Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo will need to accept Erik ten Hag's appointment as the club's new manager if he wants to be a success under the Dutchman, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Ten Hag was finally confirmed as the man to replace Ralf Rangnick in the Old Trafford dugout on Thursday morning.

How has Ronaldo fared back at Man United?

Ronaldo returned to United to much fanfare last summer after 12 years away from the club.

He made an instant impact by scoring twice against Newcastle in his first appearance back at Old Trafford, and he has gone on to net 22 goals across all competitions for the Red Devils. This has included two hat-tricks at home to Tottenham and Norwich.

However, there have been question marks about the 37-year-old's work rate off the ball, with former teammate Wayne Rooney claiming earlier this month that the Portuguese icon does not offer much other than being a goal threat.

What has Jones said about how ten Hag's appointment could affect Ronaldo?

Ten Hag has guided Ajax to major success in recent years by getting his team to press high up the pitch, which is not necessarily a strength of Ronaldo's at this stage of his career.

Jones has hinted that Ronaldo may have to adapt his game when the new boss arrives ahead of next season.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Ronaldo is going to have to accept the situation. How much he knows of ten Hag, I don’t know. But, it’s up to him to do his homework, understand his style of football, understand his philosophies.”

Will Ronaldo fit into ten Hag's plans at Man United?

There have been reports that ten Hag is not convinced that Ronaldo will be able to adapt to his approach, which may be concerning for the experienced striker.

However, there were similar worries when Rangnick became interim coach, and Ronaldo has still managed to make some useful contributions since he arrived at the club.

It seems Ronaldo may no longer be a guaranteed starter under ten Hag next term as the 52-year-old could opt to play someone who is superior at pressing in certain matches.

Yet Ronaldo has proven that he remains United's best goalscorer this season, which should not be overlooked, and this could leave ten Hag with no option but to find a role in his team for the 186-cap international.
