San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel has hit out at claims that have come out regarding his future.

The 26-year-old is currently in something of a contract dispute with the 49ers after a stellar year that saw him rack up over 2,000 yards combined in terms of receiving and rushing, turning him into one of the most dangerous weapons in the league.

A tweet from ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington claimed that Samuel had seemingly spoken to the chiefs within the organisation and asked to be traded away.

Darlington's tweet

Given that Darlington claims to have spoken to Samuel directly, it appears as though you can’t get any more ‘straight from the horse’s mouth’ than what Darlington was able to get, but it appears as though Samuel has some issues with it.

Deebo Samuel takes issue

In a tweet, which has since been deleted, Samuel seemed to hit out at reporters for trying to speculate on his future, stating that the only people who really knew the truth about the situation were him, the team and his agent Tory Dandy.

"Reporters jobs is to make stories only people know the truth about situation is 49ers @ToryDandy and deebo Samuel," Samuel wrote.

So it appears to very much be a case of ‘he said, he said’ right now with no real end in sight, but it appears as though his usage from the team, and how incredibly talented he is at being able to pull off multiple roles within the side, might be the cause of the issue.

That is according to another NFL writer Albert Breer who claimed that it was the wear and tear on his body from playing the two roles, that was causing the crux of the issue:

Where do we go from here?

What this will mean for both Samuel and the 49ers organisation moving forward is unclear. It does seem hard to think that they would be willing to let such a talent, someone who was named 1st-team All-Pro last year, simply move away without putting up much of a fight.

But as Breer hints at, this news might start generating some trade interest from other teams, and for someone of his age and skillset, he could bring in a very nice haul in the trade market for another team out there.
