UFC commentator Joe Rogan has said he’d be interested in seeing Kamaru Usman battle Canelo Alvarez in a crossover boxing match.

For months now we’ve seen Kamaru Usman push for one thing above all others - a blockbuster boxing showdown with Canelo Alvarez. The two men are at the top of the mountain in their respective fields with many believing they hold the ‘P4P best’ status in mixed martial arts and boxing.

So then, it shouldn’t be all too surprising that ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ is calling for the biggest payday of his life.

Rogan, who has seen his fair share of wacky things happen in combat sports, used Mike Tyson’s podcast as a way to get behind the idea.

“I would like to see him fight Canelo, I really would,” Rogan said. “Not because I think that he’s a favorite in a boxing match against one of the greatest boxers of all time, but I want to see him get a giant payday. The same way I would like to see [Francis] Ngannou fight Tyson Fury.

“That’s a way you can make a s***-load of money, and I don’t think it damages his potential as a UFC fighter. I think it would be invaluable experience for him, as a champion, if he did have that fight and then came back over to MMA. I think he’d probably be even better as a striker if he gets through it relatively undamaged, even if he loses.”

“He’s gonna feel some pain,” Rogan said. “It’s not the same sport, but he’s a dude that knows how to win. You have to understand this guy’s mindset.”

What’s next?

This could be an option for Kamaru and Canelo down the line but right now, they both have big fish to fry.

Alvarez will participate in his 61st pro fight when he challenges Dmitry Bivol on May 7 for the WBA (Super) light heavyweight title.

Meanwhile, Usman is reportedly gearing up to defend his UFC welterweight title for the sixth time when top contender Leon Edwards steps up to the plate this summer. The interest in the superfight is there, but maybe not just yet.
