Man Utd: Erik ten Hag could bring 'massive upheaval' at Old Trafford

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag

Manchester United are set for a ‘massive upheaval’ but the appointment of Erik ten Hag as the Red Devils’ incoming manager has ‘excited’ some members of the Old Trafford dressing room, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Ralf Rangnick has been in interim charge of the 20-time top flight title winners since November, but the club will enter a new era under the tutelage of ten Hag following the conclusion of the current campaign.

What’s the latest news involving ten Hag?

Manchester United have confirmed that ten Hag will leave Ajax to become their new boss in the summer.

The 52-year-old has signed a contract which will run until the climax of the 2024/25 season, but the deal boasts the option of being extended by a further 12 months.

Manchester United have succeeded in their bid to lure ten Hag away from Eredivisie giants Ajax after agreeing to pay a compensation package worth £2.5million, with assistant manager Mitchell van der Gaag also heading to Old Trafford.

It is unknown as to whether ten Hag will take over a Red Devils side which has qualified for the Champions League as they are still battling for a place in the Premier League’s top four, but bagging a Europa League spot at the very least is not even a foregone conclusion at this stage.

Ahead of swapping Ajax for the red half of Manchester, the Dutchman appears to be on course to get his hands on a third top flight title in his homeland.

What has Dean Jones said about ten Hag?

Jones believes the appointment of ten Hag offers Manchester United with the perfect opportunity to press the reset button.

The transfer insider feels there could be a host of big names who will be allowed to leave Old Trafford before next season gets underway.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “The confirmed arrival of ten Hag shakes everything up and has to be the reset Manchester United are looking for.

“There is no more time for a false dawn or they totally lose sight of the top four and the spiral would continue.

“I’m told some players are pretty excited about it because they feel others have been getting an easy ride. United have to be ruthless now – a massive upheaval is on the horizon.”

Who could leave Manchester United?

It appears Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata and Lee Grant will not be given the opportunity to show ten Hag what they can offer as their respective contracts are due to expire in the summer.

According to the Daily Star, ten Hag has already given the green light for Cristiano Ronaldo to move onto pastures new at the end of the season.

The report suggests ten Hag has made it clear to Manchester United that the 186-cap Portugal international is not part of his plans as he does not suit his style of play.
